“Chiave di lettura” (“Interpretive key”) is a small-scale work that plays with the linguistic ambiguity of the very expression from which it takes its name. The piece gives physical form to the idiom, turning the metaphor into an object. The “chiave di lettura” becomes an actual key, suspended within a self-supporting white net.
Atoms of a single reality
The work is conceived to be exhibited alongside pieces by 66 Italian and international artists, exploring the theme of the miniature. Each individual work, while autonomous, is configured as an atom within a single visual and conceptual organism, or as the pixel of a digital image projected on a screen. Minimal elements that acquire their full meaning only through their relationship with one another.

In this semantic shift between language and matter, the work opens onto a double level of meaning: on the one hand, the key as a physical tool that opens or locks, on the other, the key as an interpretative possibility, an access point to the meaning of the world. The net surrounding it represents the weave of connections, the system of relationships and correspondences that compose reality, a recurring motif in the artist’s research, which investigates the relational, interconnected structure of living things.
Exhibition
The work forms part of the project “Preziose miniature”, curated by Stefania Balestri, presented in a touring exhibition that first showed in Palermo at the Archivio Storico Comunale in 2024, then at the Biblioteca Vallicelliana in Rome from September 2025 until 9 October 2025 and in November 2025 in Florence at Galleria Cartavetra.
